Support us on LocalGiving.com

Our website now has a button link to our new webpage at LocalGiving.com – click on it to support us!

On every page of this website, there’s now a section called ‘Support Us.’ Inside it there is a button for LocalGiving.com. Clicking on this button will take you to our webpage there.

LocalGiving is a new up-and-coming website for local charities and organisations. It’s there to help make donations easier to our local community organisations.

In joining LocalGiving we can automatically claim back Gift Aid on any donation without any hassle.

In turn, each member of the community can now see how much it costs to run parts of the organisation. Did you know it costs £100 to run HQMK for a week? You do now.

There’s also a separate page on there for funding our next General Assembly in January 2012. Direct link here:

Please spread the word, and do what you can to support our cause. Thank you.

CitySafe action

From David, Community Engagement Officer:

On Saturday the 4th of June 2011, members of Q:alliance participated in a CitySafe action against Anti-Social Behaviour. Organised by Citizens:MK, the aim was to interview 100 people living in Milton Keynes to gather information and report back to the authorities. Almost 160 people were interviewed on the day, exceeding the target!

I myself have been the victim of Anti-Social Behaviour on the street outside my home more than once. It generates a fear that stays with you for a very long time. People should not have to live in fear of going outside their homes.

Homophobia/Transphobia and Anti-Social Behaviour often happen together, as was the case for me. It is important that when tackling Homophobia/Transphobia towards the Milton Keynes-based LGBT community there is equal weight given to tackling Anti-Social Behaviour in Milton Keynes.

Thank you to those Q:alliance members who attended the action. I will keep you all updated on the progress that has been made. In the mean time, enjoy looking at some photos of the event!

David. x

Opportunity to appear in a National newspaper

A gay London based journalist is writing a piece for a national daily newspaper on gay men who come out later in life. The focus will be on men who originally married, now have grown up children and have taken the step to come out since. Ideally he would need men who are willing to talk about their experiences and be photographed for the piece.

Contact Colin at magazineproject2011 {at} hotmail(.)com for more information or if you feel you might fit the bill and are happy to speak about your experiences.
